Scottish Governments “undecided” on Celtic COVID mess

|

Celtic are still to find out whether they have avoided a mass self isolation nightmare as the Scottish Government gave a travel update tonight.

From 4am Monday morning, any travel to anf from the United Arab Emirates will stop amid concerns of the COVID pandemic.

Although there is a stipulation that anyone that travelled to Scotland from Dubai from the 3rd January should isolate for 10 days, this rule did not apply to “elite” sports but the seemingly the Government are still undecided if Celtic’s trip qualified as “elite training”.

Celtic today confirmed that one of their players has tested positive for coronavirus but did not stipulate if the player concerned where with the travelling party in Dubai or whether the virus was caught in Scotland or Dubai but they have confirmed that all other players and backroom staff have tested negative.

There has been reports on Twitter that the Government and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde are currently speaking to Celtic to clarify details of the trip and an announcement on whether any forced self isolation will be made around lunchtime tomorrow

This has been a saga from start to finish as Celtic believed they had permission from The Scottish Government and the Joint Response Group ahead of the trip. Dubai was a safe travel zone at the time of travel but Nicola Sturgeon said “questions need answered” after photo’s of players seemingly breaking social distancing rules arose.

No mater the outcome of the meeting tomorrow, this has been a sorry tale for Celtic and an unwitting PR disaster.
