Celtic have been an insurmountable force in Scotland over the course of previous seasons, and the intensity of their domination has been enhanced during Brendan Rodgers’ tenure as manager. In an attempt to consolidate their dominance, the Bhoys are widely expected to recruit new arrivals in the summer transfer window. Would Liverpool’s Danny Ings be a good addition to Celtic?

According to the Daily Telegraph, Liverpool’s Danny Ings has decided to leave Anfield in the summer window, following a frustrating and injury-hit spell with the Reds. It’s reported that Jurgen Klopp was keen to retain the services of the former Burnley striker, but the charismatic manager appreciated and understood Ings’ reasons for wanting to leave. Could this enable Celtic to swoop in?

Following the permanent arrival of Odsonne Edouard, the Bhoys don’t require the services of another striker (if Dembele stays at Celtic Park). A move for another centre-forward would be considered as a luxury for Brendan Rodgers, who already has Dembele, Edouard and Griffiths at his disposal. That said, the possible arrival of Danny Ings would significantly augment the calibre of the Celtic attack, in addition to providing the team with invaluable competition – that should, theoretically, increase the performances of squad players.

As previously mentioned, his time at Liverpool has been severely disrupted by injury, and the English striker has failed to fulfil his full potential when given first-team opportunities by the Reds. In 25 games for Liverpool, the 25-year-old has amassed four goals.

Nonetheless, his time at Burnley is the best example of Ings’ goal-scoring prowess, especially his last two seasons. In 130 appearances for the Clarets, Ings scored a commendable total of 43 goals – 37 of which were scored in his last two seasons with the Premier League outfit.

If Ings can overcome his injury concerns, and regain his confidence with Brendan Rodgers’ side, the Bhoys could benefit from having another clinically proficient striker at their disposal.
