“Signing of the season?” – SPFL sparks Celtic transfer debate

Jota is immense isn’t he?

For all the will in the world, I can’t see him becoming a permanent Celtic player. There I said it.

I really, really, really hope he does, but the more he performs like he did last night, the more I think there will be another club, from a bigger league that will offer more money to tempt him away.

Or Benfica will realise that they have made a massive mistake in letting him go on loan and try to ‘persuade’ him to stay in Portugal once his loan deal ends.

Don’t shout at me, I’m just trying to prepare for the worst whilst hoping for the best.

But after his display against Aberdeen where he bagged another two goals against the Dons, the SPFL tweeted out a ‘controversial’ question where they asked, “Signing of the season? Jota at the double at Pittodrie  ⚽️ #cinchPrem |@CelticFC”

And it is not difficult to disagree with this. But I’m sure fans of other clubs might.

But sticking to Celtic fans, many would argue that Carter Vickers or Joe Hart could take that mantle as they have been at the heart of the best defence in the league.

Or Kyogo Furuhashi as his goals sealed the Premier Sports Cup or maybe even Josip Juranovic who has been immense at right back since joining the club.

The truth is, it is hard to look outside of Parkhead when discussing the signing of the season in the league but for Celtic fans, the problem is deciding who it could be, not if it is a Celtic player.

  • Scot says:

Typical snail like mentality in not getting Jota signed up quick enough and the same will happen with Carter Vickers. C’mon Ange put your foot down the club can afford it.
