The fixtures after the split has come under much scrutiny over the last couple of days.

So much so that my friend, James Forrest at The Celtic Blog, laid out the different permutations should the differing sides in the league either make it into, drop out of the top six.

Either way, Celtic do not get the good end of the stick.

I won’t go into who will play who and where as James covers it brilliantly here, but it is fair to say that we will end up with more away games to tougher venues than some other clubs.

You know who I’m talking about.

But as a Celtic fan called Clyde 1 Superscoreboard to ask about it, the current CEO of the Scottish Professional Footballers Association tried to explain how it works, It’s not as if it’s a conspiracy or anything like that.

“It’s just the facts of, it’s the only way you can do it [work out the fixture list].

“And that there are teams down below in the lower half of the league who will play eighteen home games twenty away games.

“But they’ll try and find a way and and it’s just the way that it goes.

“If we’re gonna have twelve teams and we’re gonna have a split, and I’m not against that, and the split brings a lot of excitement to our season, then then there’s always gonna be a problem because you can’t predict who’s gonna be top six.”

So as it stands, Wishart seems to suggest it’s all down to guess work and the luck of the draw.

It’s just strange that it’s Celtic that never seems to benefit from that luck now isn’t it?

Easy solution, just play same amount of games home znd away without the split, only fair way.

  • Pcelt says:

Who cares who we play or where,we are capable of beating any spl team home or away and if the fixtures do look tougher than others, then it’s an even better achievement winning the league that way.

  • John says:

They should scrap the rule that’s says you must play 2 away games, and play them as arranged

  • ROBERT JOHN MCPHEE says:

ITS EASY TO SOLVE.NO MATTER WHO IS IN THE TOP SIX,IF YOU HAVE TO PLAY 4 OR 5 GAMES AWAY YOU PLAY THEM,IF YOU HAVE 4 OR FIVE AT HOME YOU PLAY THEM.
IF A TEAM GETS INTO THE TOP 6 THE YOU THATS NOT EXPECTED THEN YOU PLAY THEM AWAY.

ALL TEAMS THEN PLAY 19 HOME 19 AWAYS THE LUCK OF THE DRAW.

  • James lynas says:

It always happens at the cut,Celtic will have more away games against the bigger teams, the SFA have and always will do everything to try and stop us,it’s nothing new it’s been going on for years, you think they would have learned there lesson after the Jim Farry incident, but hey ho we shall overcome it.

  • Jack Slade says:

A potential solution to avoid this problem in future seasons:-
Increase the League size to 14 teams,
Play each other Home and Away; a total of 26 games.
    Then,
Split the League into top 7 and bottom 7.
Play each other H and A; a total of 12 games.
Total games played by each team: 38.

They don’t matter no SPL money as they don’t support SPL or sponsors
