Carl Starflets injury. One that caused not only severe pain to the player, but emotional pain to the Celtic fans.

Because, once again, we are bearing witness to an important first team player suffering a severe injury whilst on international duty.

At the time, the media were reporting that it could be a serious hamstring injury, which is a report that will send a chill down every Celtic fans spine after Kyogo Furuhashi’s experience with that.

Starfelt himself said [Daily Record] of the injury at the time, “I felt a stabbing pain in my back so I had to go off.

“Of course it’s not fun, especially not when you get the chance to play and you want to take your opportunity.

“But sometimes it’s like that in football, I have to see now what kind of injury it is.

“If I am lucky, the X-ray may not show anything and I can recover in a few days, but right now I do not see it as very likely.”

But speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, journalist Stephen McGowan gave an update on Starfelts injury and it seems it may not be as bad as first feared, “I think he was having a scan today.

“He had a spasm in his back or something so he was looking to see what the full extent was.”

A back spasm. Painful as they are, at least it is not the dreaded hamstring tear.

Back spasms can take anything from 2-4 weeks to recover from as long as there is no tear to the muscle which can then increase the recover time from 6-8 weeks [Epain Assist].

Let’s hope we get some official news from Celtic in the coming days and that Starfelt will be available for the start of the season.
