“He has won over the fans and is chancing his arm” – Celtic fans frustrated as deal is delayed

I can understand why these fans are as annoyed as they are.

I don’t necessarily agree with all the comments, but I get why the comments have been said.

Jota to Celtic has been a long running saga. Not helped by the SMSM constantly telling us that the deal is almost done (or whatever it was they reported last week), the fans patience has been tested to the limit waiting on news of the permanent signing.

Over the weekend, the Glasgow Times posted a story on the Portuguese winger where they claimed personal terms were holding up the deal and these Celtic fans commented on it and vented their feelings on the matter. Some even vented against Cameron Carter-Vickers:

Jason Beckett wrote: “I hope they both stay. But I don’t think there’s anything wrong with players looking out for their own interests.

“There’s no loyalty from clubs if a transfer goes wrong. Both Celtic and Rangers are trying to ship players out, as well as bring new ones in.”

Charlie George replied, “Here we go (along with CV) greedy bar stewards.

“Say all the right things the fans want to here, then spin it that’s it’s clubs fault when deal is on “hold” while they play hard ball.

“Personally, in my opinion Goldson should have had contract ripped to pieces for using same “stall” tactics while he seen what was on offer. If it turns out all three end up staying in Scotland watch for the “was never in any doubt” quotes coming out. Some players really don’t have a clue what loyalty really is.”

Joseph McGrath isn’t convinced that the deal is happening, “This isn’t looking great, give it another few days and then move on. This was always going to be the case, due to the riches of other leagues. If he signs then brilliant, if he doesn’t then thanks for the memories. No player is bigger than the club.”

And Rob Gault believes that Jota should look after his own interests, “He is a quality player who clearly knows that he has won over the fans and is chancing his arm.

“Seen it time and time again and its one of the risks of the “loan to buy” plan. Difficult to expect loyalty from a player who would be punted at the end of a contract by a club if it suited them. Can’t say I blame any player for trying to make the most financially out of what is a short career.”

Whatever happens, let’s hope we get a definitive answer this week from the club.

Whether it’s a yes or a no, Celtic fans now, just want clarity on the matter.

  • MarkE says:

Don’t the clubs need to wait on the Transfer Market officially opening before they can sign Jota, CCV, anyone else?

…its only a few days from now, so fingers crossed we hear good news straight away regarding signings.

  • Joe Plunkett says:

How about, Jota and Celtic staff are on vacation for now, most probably Benfica too,the SMSM is only filling it’s new headlines with nonsense at least till the transfer window opens !!!

Everyone and their dog’s on holiday everywhere. Jota hasn’t wore anything other than his Celtic top while he’s been on tour in Europe and USA. We’ll see soon where it’s at. Cameron strikes me as a guy who’ll say something when there’s something to say. Don’t let the media etc rattle you, nobody should dance to their tune.
