Reported Celtic transfer target Harold Moukoudi has turned down the chance to sign for Aston Villa today, according to French outlet FranceBleu.

They say that the player actually travelled to Birmingham yesterday to discuss a potential move to the English Championship, but has returned to tell his club president he isn’t interested.

The Scottish Sun reported earlier this week than the Hoops were interested in the French U20s star, with a fee of £5m expected to be enough to tempt Le Havre into selling. Clearly they are willing to do business given the player’s recent travels.

The news comes as Celtic are on the brink the signing Leicester City defender Filip Benkovic on loan. While certainly a more cost effective option than Moukoudi, could the Hoops be thinking of adding even more defensive depth to Brendan Rodgers’ squad?

FranceBleu report that both Lyon and Rennes are interested in making a late move for the player, but with Celtic’s preference of signing young talented French players in recent years, is this another one that could pay off massively?

With just hours before the end of the transfer window, we’ll find out soon enough!

Do Celtic need another defender beyond the signature of Filip Benkovic? Have your say in the comments below…
