There’s a breaking transfer update on the situation of Moussa Dembele this afternoon, with L’Equipe journalist Bilel Ghazi taking to Twitter to offer his latest on it all.

According to him, Lyon are still majorly interested in doing business for the young French striker today. However, Celtic’s stance is that they want to find a replacement and are ready to sell Dembele in January. The complication is that the player himself wants to leave before the end of tonight’s transfer deadline.

The report provides a bit of clarity on the increasingly bizarre Twitter postings and likes from the player’s account over the last 24 hours.

It’s clear at this point that the player is doing what we can now refer to as ‘a Boyata’ in trying to force a move away from Glasgow.

So far, in our opinion, Celtic are handling this one as best they can. There’s an argument to be made we should have sourced a replacement for the player already, but the fact is we haven’t, so selling Dembele now would be a critical blow to the club.

We are fully justified to hold out for a potential January move or at least force Lyon into a can’t-turn-down offer for the player.

How it all develops over the course of the afternoon and evening is anyone’s guess!
