Odsonne Edouard has been speaking about his future in an interview with France Football magazine.
Coming off the back of scoring the crucial winning goal against our biggest rivals, many have now turned their attention to whether we should break our club record to sign him on a permanent basis. When asked about his future, the Frenchman was pretty non-committal:
‘Frankly, I just play and finish the season.I do not think about what will happen next time. I`m having a lot of fun here at Celtic. It is an extraordinary club with a top coach and very big fans.I want to focus solely on my football and to help Celtic as best as I can.’
We have a purchase option of £7million on the 20 year old once his loan spell from PSG ends this summer, and it really is a difficult one to call. He`s scored eight goals in 23 games this season which isn`t a bad return from his first season in the league, but whether he warrants such a significant outlay is debatable.
Certainly he is developing his game all the time under Brendan, and he could become a really good player. If he does, we would surely regret losing him if we don`t decide to make his move permanent. On the other hand, his development could stall, and we could have wasted a lot of money.
The reaction on Twitter to Edouard staying have been pretty mixed:
Edouard probably isn`t worth £7m but to find the next Dembele is probably going to cost that. The amount of £1-3m strikers Celtic have tried and flopped show how difficult that is.

I’m amazed people are willing to pay £7m for Osdonne Edouard. Good player and would love to see him stay at Celtic but for a club thats often found immense value in the market, £7m for Edouard doesn’t represent that.

For every 1 Dembele you find, you get 3/4 Fridjonsson, Rasmussen, Bangura etc
Better to spend the money in this day and age for a known entity

Apparently the deal had add ons based on CL qualification. Jjust going with what was reported at the time not any insider info or passing it off as a fact. I think Celtic will try and negotiate the price on Edouard but I’d happily pay the £7m if I was in charge.

£7m is only a lot of money if you don`t have it. Celtic are cash rich and investing in a player who has already settled at the club makes perfect sense. If the Manager wants him then sign him.

You can’t lose money on him. He has proven quality…Hence worth the outlay.

If we buy him for 7 million we’ll still definitely still make profit on him or at the very least break even and that’s really what will matter to Celtic

all depends on the money we get for Dembele

I think we`ll try get him again for another season personally.

Don’t think psg would be hard to deal with to lower that fee
? Paddy (@RogicEsque) 15 March 2018
I would rather spend that money on Patrick Roberts. Eduard has no chance at PSG, Celtic could get him for free with successive loans.
