As rumours of Scott Brown possibly leaving in the summer to go to Aberdeen as player/coach  surfaced overnight, Celtic may be forced with the reality that may need to replace their captain sooner than they had hoped for.

Granted, the emergence of Ismaila Soro this season will help to soften the blow of that loss, but the young Ivorian has not really featured much since interim manager, John Kennedy, took over the reigns from Neil Lennon so doubts may be cast over the young midfielders maturity or suitability to take over the role from such a legend at the club.

One caller into The Go Radio Football Show asked co-host, James McFadden whether or not he thought looking to sign Irishman, James McCarthy, would be a move that Celtic should look at as he is out of contract in the summer. McFadden agreed with the caller and said that McCarthy would be a “really good signing” for the Hoops, “That’s a good shout. James is 30 he had a great spell before he went to Everton and got a horrendous injury.  The fact that he’s actually back playing is incredible in itself. And it’s not worked out maybe as well at Palace as he would have liked. This goes back to the point of the direction Celtic want to go down.

Would you have John Kennedy as next Celtic manager?

YES

NO

“More often not look at looking at younger players to bring and develop and sell on. But I think when you look at it, sometimes you’ve got to make that signing (experienced). He’s a good age at 30,but because of his injuries he has not actually played loads of football in his career. And, and I think that to come in, the experience he’s got, his ability, I think he would be a really good signing for Celtic.”

McFadden does make some great points here but without a manager in place, would McCarthy really sign for Celtic at this stage of his career?
