I try not to talk too much about Rangers on this site. Mainly because there is plenty of Celtic content out there but this one I couldn’t ignore.

As the fallout over Steven Gerrard’s move to Aston Villa continues, his former club released a statement to their fans with a very strange paragraph which can be viewed as nothing but a blatant attempt to lie about their successes over the last three years.

On the club website, Rangers claimed, “Domestically, Rangers have flourished under Gerrard, with that work culminating in the club claiming their 55th title last season on the back of an unbeaten league campaign.”

Now, ignoring the stupidity of the 55th title claim, where exactly have Rangers flourished domestically under Gerrard?

In the time the former Liverpool legend became boss of the Ibrox club, Celtic wrapped up a domestic Invincible Treble. A real invincible’s season. Not that nonsense they claim over in Govan.

We then wen on to win a further THREE trebles as Gerrard watched on as one of the least successful Rangers managers in recent times.

Out of fifteen domestic trophies since Gerrard took over, he has won one.

One trophy in three and a half seasons.

How is that domestic dominance? Celtic have swept all before them and were it not for the season being stopped early due to the COVID pandemic, Gerrard’s coat was on a shakey nail.

But then facts do not serve that club well.

They will continue to claim great domestic progress as long as claims like that go unchallenged. Which it does.

Until now.
