Andy Walker is a well known Celtic critic. Fans perceive him as being too harsh in criticism and that he has nothing positive to say about his old club.

I have met Walker at a function once and he surprised me with his passion and love he has for the club and sometimes when I read his articles I need to remind myself of the time I met him as his criticism can be harsh and sometimes over the top.

But tonight, he had an amazing, live on air rant about Celtic’s governance and it is difficult to argue with his rationale. Live on Sky Sports Walker said of Celtic, “I think what we’ve seen is some dismal governance. First of all from the joint response group – this is a body that also agreed to sign off on Celtic’s trip to Dubai.

“At a time when they’re approaching the government to plead a bit of poverty, apparently there’s no money in Scottish football.

“I’m guessing this trip Celtic went on to Dubai cost hundreds of thousands of pounds. They chartered their own aircraft, they stayed for five nights in five-star accommodation for, I don’t know, 20, 30 people?

“You’ve got to remember Celtic supporters are paying their season tickets to see all the big stars – they’re not seeing them tonight. That’s not they’re fault, they’re being short changed, and it’s completely unacceptable.”

Many Celtic fans will hate to admit it but Walker’s sentiments will resonate with them as thousands have paid hundreds of pounds this season in blind faith to back the team to go on and win the “Ten” and if Dermott Desmond and the board are not careful, that backing may not be so forthcoming next season.
