As Celtic prepare to face Ferencvaros in Hungary tonight, Barry Ferguson was reviewing the teams chances against the Hungarians as he made a rather strange claim of the Celtic defence.

Ferguson was speaking on Go Radio when he said, “I include the goalkeeper in that the back five, it’s a whole new defensive setup.

“It’s going to take a bit of time. I still think they look suspect and you  go back to the midweek game against Hibs, the set piece.

“I think Joe Hart has been a massive signing. There’s still been mistakes in the heart of the Celtic defence but Joe Hart has got them out the mire a couple of times.

“In terms of Celtic going over there I don’t think they’ve got anything to fear.

“I know the Hungarians need to come at Celtic because they’ve got to win the game and I think that might play up Celtic’s street.

“It will leave spaces for Celtic to go in and get behind them because Celtic going forward can create chances and score goals.”

This is a very peculiar statement to make.

Celtic have the best defensive record in the league after conceding just seven goals in twelve games, four less than his beloved Ibrox team.

The defence has been getting a lot of praise as Cameron Carter Vickers and Carl Starfelt have both built up a great understanding between them both and as they both got accustomed to Celtic gaffer, Ange Postecoglou’s style.

Quite where Barry was coming from I do not know.
