Former Rangers midfielder Alex Rae has took an amazing swipe at Celtic for their change of signing policy.
We all know the Celtic model. Buy them young and cheap, develop them and sell them on for a massive profit. It’s a model that has been successful for the club in terms of generating finance, but sometimes it can be frustrating for the Celtic fans as sometimes a mixture of experience is needed to balance out the team.
The club have been needing that for years, and this season, as Celtic look to wrestle back the title from their rivals, experience is exactly what they went for.
Joe Hart and James McCarthy have broke the mould this season and so far Hart has equipped himself well and we have yet to see much of McCarthy.
It is fair to say most Celtic fans are happy with the experience being brought it.
Alex Rae speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, amazingly attacked the transfer move for Hart and Hugh Keevins suggestion of going for David Marshall as competition for the Celtic No 1 spot and used a very strange argument against the signings, “I’m not quite sure about the boy Marshall. I think it’s okay going for Joe Hart, who has had better days.
“We’re not quite sure what we’re gonna get with him going forward.
“But to then go and sign a player (Marshall) of that similar age. This is not the Celtic model.
“I said this a few weeks ago. Celtic buy guys at twenty three, twenty four and then try and sell them and get value.
“If you’re buying keepers at 34ish, then for me that’s not a long term model, Celtic will be looking for more of a thinking outside the box.”
Not the long term model? Did Hart not get a four year deal? Is that not long term?
