According to reports in The Guardian, Sky and the SPFL are close to securing a new £29 million deal for exclusive rights to broadcast games, SPFL’s clubs will also have an option to each sell 5 of their matches on PPV.

“Sky’s existing deal with the SPFL, which allows a maximum of 48 games a season, is due to expire in 2025. Under the revised terms, Sky will continue with that limit this season” the article goes on to say this deal is still pitiful in comparison to the money being poured out to other leagues by Sky with the English Premier League alone being given £1.65 Billion. Admittedly, there are far more eyes on the EPL around the world but it is yet another example of how the SPFL is being allowed to be viewed as an after thought by SKY.

This is even more outrageous when you consider the world wide appeal of Celtic, if promoted properly and given half as much advertising and time as the EPL receive, Celtic would attract an even larger audience than the Club currently do to turn on their TVs and being engrossed in the We Never Stop style of Ange’s men.

The main obstacle to securing the right TV deal for Scottish Football, is the ineptitude of the SFA, if we really want Scottish Football to be taken seriously and Scottish clubs to regularly compete in Europe, then a better negotiated TV deal than the recent SPFL and Cup competion sponsorships, would be crucial to aid Scottish Clubs’ ambitions and abilities to sign a better standard of players.

Quite right Kier, the SFA and SPFL, directors are incapable of negotiating a decent deal for Scotland, I hope the clubs vote against it and tell Doncaster etc to get back to the negotiating table.
