Celtic have plenty of youth talent in their ranks and many of them represent their countries at all different levels.
But one youngster turned into a hero last night as the Republic of Ireland u16 defeated the Northern Ireland u16 3-1 in a penalty shoot-out.
Northern Ireland were 1-0 up heading into the last few minutes of the match after Brian McClure’s first-half opener but Mason Melia fired in a late equaliser to take the tie to penalties.
And up steps young Gill.
The goalkeeper became the hero of the night with a trio of saves giving the young Irish side the opportunity to win the Victory Shield when they face Scotland’s kids in the final game of the tournament.
Here is the final save from the penalty shootout.

Of course, young Gill is no stranger to penalty glory as he helped Celtic u15’s to a 4-3 penalty win against the Colorado Rapids last season in the MLS Generation Cup.

It certainly seems that Gill is one to watch for the future and as he continues to carve out a name for himself at this early stage of his career, let’s hope that Celtic tie him to a long-term contract if and when the opportunity arises.
