It seems as we get closer to the date Dom McKay officially takes over as Celtic C.E.O, the more stories are appearing that lend weight to the idea that Eddie Howe will, in fact, be the next Celtic manager come the summer.

Speaking on the Record Celtic podcast, Chris Sutton and Michael Gannon, were discussing the ins and outs of the Eddie Howe situation when Gannon seemed to speak from a position of knowledge, “But I think we’re at the point with Eddie Howe us that it’s more of legalities and finer points of contract details. I think Eddie Howe will be at Celtic this summer.

“I think, I suspect, he may still be on the wage bill at Bournemouth and why pay £400k to get him out early when the seasons done when you’re working in the background.”

At this point Sutton interjected, “Oooh what do you know Mick! What do you know!?

Do you think Eddie Howe will become the Celtic manager?

YES

NO

Gannon protested his innocence and carried on, “I’m just surmising Chris. I’m just thinking that these these matters won’t be discussed because it’s contractual and highly private.

“And there’s also the Richard Hughes angle as well. Listen, Richard Hughes was a Premier League Technical Director on a good wage as well. Will he get that at Parkhead?

“That’s not part of the budget that Celtic may be looking at, they didn’t actually plan for, so wee things going in on the background like this that cost a lot of money, but maybe in the longer term will get ironed out.”

Again, Sutton pressed Gannon suspiciously, “It really sounds like you’re in the know Mick.

If what Gannon says is close to being true, it could explain why there is such a delay in announcing Howe. With a possible £400,000 compensation package to buy Howe out of his Bournemouth contract when money is tight during the COVID pandemic, it now makes sense that Celtic are waiting to formally announce Howe.

But, would the board be best speculating to accumulate and pay the £400k to get him at Paradise sooner as £30m Champions League money rides on the new manager being successful?
