We all remember John Park as some kind of super scout that could always find Celtic a bargain player.

His two most notable finds were, without doubt, the discovery of Virgil Van Djik and Victor Wanyama.

Both players were found by Park for a combined fee of around £3.5m, but where eventually sold on for over £20m to English Premier League side, Southampton.

So it is fair to say he knows a thing or two about finding a bargain.

Park laments the amount of money that was spent on Celtic favourite Odsonne Edouard and questioned the value of the transfer move and made a bold claim about finding BETTER players for less money, “I find it strange that people spend that amount of money on some players when you can find 100 players just as good, if not better, for a portion of that money.

“Have Celtic spent money and done well? I don’t know.

“You look at Edouard: £9 million. But then you include his wages for a couple of million, and then the sell-on (40 per cent of profit to PSG), is that value for money?”

“There are some excellent young players out there that you can find through the right tools and processes, which the right scouting team can deliver. I’m totally convinced of that.

“That’s the part of it I love.”

Wow. Park certainly had an eye for a player when he was at Celtic and to make a bold claim like he has just done makes you wonder if Celtic made a massive blunder letting him go during the Brendan Rodgers era.
