6ft 2in defender tipped to make impact at Celtic should he move

|

BBC Radio Scotland pundit Derek Ferguson has backed Scott McKenna to be a success at Celtic should he make the switch from Aberdeen.

The Daily Mail reported in November that Celtic were expected to revive their interest in the Scotland international this January but so far no bid has emerged.

The club had previously made a move to sign the Dons man during the last summer transfer window when it looked like Dedryck Boyata was on his way out of the club.

Ferguson believes a McKenna move to Celtic would be a good one, telling interview channel Open Goal: “Tell you what, he is an out-and-out defender, big, strong. What you need at this level is pace, and he has got that in abundance. You can see him getting better in terms of playing out from the back, but if you are asking for a defender, just go and defend, he is your man.”

Some Celtic fans are unconvinced McKenna would be a hit at Celtic Park but I have to say, I actually agree with Derek Ferguson, which is something of a rarity.

A potential McKenna signing has been compared to a similar move for Jack Hendry last January but I don’t buy into that at all. I feel McKenna is much more accomplished in the defensive line and despite some difficult performances against us, is one of the best defenders in the league.

He is a physical and committed player and if he’s available at the right price, we could do a lot worse.
