£6m transfer boost for Hoops as Premier League side “increasingly confident” of deal

|

Celtic are set to receive a £6million boost to their already sizeable bank balance with the news that Manchester United are  hoping to secure the signing of Moussa Dembele for £60m, as reported by The Daily Record.

In what is a welcome break from the tedious statement wars surrounding the SPFL EGM, Hoops fans will be thrilled at news that the Premier League giants are “increasingly confident” of getting the transfer over the line according to the Daily Star and with a 10% sell on clause, the Hoops are soon to be in the money.

With the French leagues cancelled and Lyon no longer able to qualify for Champions League football it had been expected that Dembele would look to seal a move away from the club that paid £19.7m for his services a couple of years ago.

Several Premiership clubs and Juventus have all been credited with an interest in the striker but it looks as though United will be his next destination.

The Reds had been keeping an eye on Celtic’s own Odsonne Edouard but the departure of Dembele could mean that Lyon once again return to Parkhead to bolster their attack having previously been linked with the 22-year old.

Celtic could do a lot worse than throwing the £6m straight into Edouard’s back pocket in an attempt to keep him at the club longer and certainly long enough to lead the line for Neil Lennon in one of the biggest seasons in the club’s history.

The Dembele deal has once again shown the success of Celtic’s negotiating team in a transfer from start to finish that is a textbook example of how to operate in the market, an initial £500k outlay has been turned into a profit in the region of £25m as well as the player delivering countless trophies on the way.
