With Ange Postecoglou landing his first major signing of the transfer window, pundit Stephen Craigan has tipped the big Aussie to make a move for homegrown talent and what better player to turn his attention to than Hibs left back Josh Doig.

Celtic have failed to find a suitable replacement since Kieran Tierney left on his £25m journey to London to join Arsenal. Doig is a player in a similar mould and would suit Postecoglou’s philosophy of free flowing attacking football.

Doig burst onto the scene last season and blew the fans away with stunning performances that saw him pick up the SFWA Young Player of the Year, entered into the SPFL Premiership Team of the year AND pick up the Hibernian Young Player of the Year.

Craigan, speaking to The Go Radio Football Show, tips the youngster for big things but questions whether Celtic would be willing to part with £4m for a “working progress”, “I just wonder can Celtic that afford to pay 4 million pounds for someone who will be a working progress.

“I think if he went to Celtic, there might be more pressure on him to go and deliver.

“I think now Postecoglou needs players to come in immediately and play.

“Yeah Josh Doig will probably play. But he’s got a little bit of learning to do in his game. You think back to the Scottish Cup final, when he lost his header at the back post to Shaun Rooney,.

“Just little things like that were, because you are exposed to so much football early on, you’re going to make mistakes. Celtic will need to get their signings right. They can’t afford to have that.

“I would imagine if they’ve got 4 million pounds, and they’re prepared to go and get a young player who will be a Scotland international, be a regular for the next three or four years.”

Doig is a talented kid. Celtic should spend the money on him. When you think of the money wasted on Diego Laxalt and Boli Bolingoli, £4m seems like a snap for a youngster with a potentially massive career ahead of him.
