My first impression when I heard the news? I thought, ‘It’s better to have him than to not’. But is that really the benchmark on how we should be offering contracts these days? Probably not but let’s face it. Leigh Griffiths had Celtic over a barrel just as much as the club had him.

So this deal probably suits both parties and with squad needing serious reinforcements for the Champions League qualifiers in less than three weeks time, at least now they can scratch off looking for a striker. For now.

As news broke of Leigh Griffiths being offered a one year deal, there was the inevitable mixed reaction from the Celtic supporters. Many were happy with the news whereas many more can’t seem to forgive the striker for his lack of commitment in one of the biggest seasons in Celtic’s history.

One man that is definitely happy to have Griffiths sing on the dotted line was Ange Postecoglou. But behind that delight, was a hint of a warning for the one time Scotland striker and he should take heed of it.

Speaking to the clubs official website, Postecoglou said of the deal, “I am really pleased to keep Leigh with us for another season at least.

“I have had very positive conversations with Leigh and he clearly understands my expectations and more importantly the club’s.

“Leigh has already proven himself as one of the top strikers in Scotland and I look forward to working with him so that we can bring success to Celtic Football Club.”

Lets hope Ange got his expectations over loud and clear and it seems the big Aussie is a man that takes no nonsense but with Griffiths history at the club, you can’t be too sure if he would heed the warning, but only time, I guess, will tell.
