There is a strange narrative going around that Ange’s impending league win is somehow not worthy because of his transfer spend this year.

It is really a very strange and narrow minded take in this country that is, quite frankly, very embarrassing and shows up some of the fans of some clubs as petty minded.

Put it this way. Is there any other league in the world where fans would argue that winning the competition is diminished because of a transfer budget?

Of course not?

I never heard this argument in Scotland in the nineties or early 2000’s when a certain club was sweeping all before them. But now?

It seems all to convenient that this narrative is now being spun.

However, respected Australian journalist Vince Rugari shared his latest piece on twitter from The Sydney Morning Herald:

And it prompted this rather bizarre response, from an Aberdeen fan no less, “No disrespect pal, can’t understand why everyone is getting bent outta shape about Ange, he’s spent £22.7m in a league where some clubs have budgets of £2 or £3m.

“Knocked out of 3 European comps, overshadow by rangers exploits. How good do you have to be with that budget?”

To which Rugari replied, “You have to look at it from the Aussie perspective mate.

“He’s one of ours who is working wonders in uncharted territory, doing things nobody thought an Aussie would even get the chance to do in football. All relevant context re: this achievement is in my story.”

But instead of backing down, the fan doubled down and completely changed the argument, Appreciate the Aussie narrative, just trying to pull this back into prospective pal.

“£23m would run half the league clubs combined.

“Would he qualify for Europe with Spurs or Burnley who are competing with lesser/ similar budgets to the big 4? I hope he get a crack at the epl.”

Clearly exasperated, Rugari hit back, “It’s not about that tho Darc, that’s what I’m trying to explain to you. People are getting ‘bent out of shape’ because of exactly the reasons I just told you – it’s pride.

“As for EPL, teams with lesser budgets… genuinely believe Ange could do just about anything.”

And after what we have witnessed so far this season, Rugari is 100% spot on.

Ange can do just about anything.

He has proved it in every job he has been in.

And when the time comes, hopefully not for a few years yet, he will prove it in the EPL as well.

The fan, strangely, never replied.

Weird that.
