Celtic won’t be signing Manchester City midfielder Douglas Luiz on loan, with the player instead set for a move to Benfica, according to The Daily Mail.

Brendan Rodgers was spotted at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend taking in Man City’s match with Huddersfield Town, leading to speculation from some that the Brazilian 20-year-old may have been a target he was discussing with the English champions.

However, that does not appear to be the case, making him just another in a long line of rumoured transfer targets this summer who won’t be moving to Glasgow.

With Odsonne Edouard, Scott Bain, Emilio Izaguirre and Daniel Arzani all joining the club during this transfer window, there has been some action in the market, although perhaps not at the level that many expected.

Time is running out for Brendan Rodgers to make additions and the rumours have been coming thick and fast in recent days.

Luiz would have added depth to the midfield having won a move to Man City last summer from Brazilian side Vasco da Gama. He was immediately sent on loan to Girona, making 17 appearances for the La Liga side last term.

Do the Hoops have another midfield target in mind in the final week of the window?
