Celtic launched their defence of the Scottish League Cup on Saturday, successfully navigating a trip to Firhill to face Championship side Partick Thistle.

Winning 3-1 thanks to goals from Leigh Griffiths, Moussa Dembele and Tom Rogic, there was a brief period in the game that things looked a bit dicey after Partick had equalised the opener.

The victory was ultimately inspired by right-back Cristian Gamboa, whose blazing runs forward unlocked the Partick defence, providing assists for both Dembele and Rogic.

He came into the side for Mikael Lustig and lived up to people’s expectations. Many are now dying for him to permanently replace the Swedish defender in Brendan Rodgers’ first team.

The Costa Rican hasn’t featured much since signing for the club in 2016, but is it finally his time to shine in the Hoops?
