Celtic’s opening bid of £2m for Croatian right back Josip Juranovic has been rejected by Legia Warsaw.

According to The Evening Times, Celtic’s opening bid of £2m has been rejected even although the reported fee the Polish side are looking for is €3m (£2.5m).

The news is surely going to anger and frustrate the Hoops faithful as Ange Postecoglou looks to strengthen the right back area as a matter of priority and many Celtic fans will see that the board haggling over £500,000 for a top target could put the rebuilding project under threat.

With the Hoops only having one recognised right back at the club in Anthony Ralston, the Scottish right back has done a magnificent job and equipped himself well so far, but Postecoglou is keen to add to the squad as he feels it will be extremely difficult to keep the intense football he demands without reinforcements.

As Celtic look forward to the Europa League qualification match against AZ Alkmaar, Postecoglou has said the Celtic fans should look forward to more of the same style of football regardless of the opposition, “They (Alkmaar) are a good side, a young team, they will be full of energy as well. Their season has just kicked off, so they will be pretty fresh.

“They will be excited about playing at Celtic in front of a capacity crowd. It will be a typical European night, there will be plenty of high-tempo, quality football.”

There is no doubt tomorrow nights game will be a tester for the Celtic team, but it will also be a teller if the boards dithering in the transfer market costs the Hoops dear in Europe once again.
