Yesterday I wrote an article about the ludicrous tweet The Daily Record sent out on the Europa League draw. To cut to the chase the link is below:

At Celtic’s pre match Champions League qualifier, Ange Postecoglou gave his press conference alongside new club captain Callum McGregor where, to the Celtic fans delight, he answered all questions truthfully and honestly but what he probably wasn’t expecting and what he will need to get used to, is the Scottish media’s narrative of twisting the truth.

Alongside my piece about the Daily Record, my good friend and prominent Celtic blogger James Forrest on his site The Celtic Blog, and Niall J at fan media outlet The Celtic Star called out the Scottish media’s shameful twisting of the managers words by Tom English and the Daily Record.

James Forrest called the Daily Record’s baiting tactics, “a deceitful headline; Steven Mair’s article carries the flagrantly dishonest title “Ange Postecoglou admits Celtic hesitated in transfer market as boss insists ‘it doesn’t take a genius to figure out’.”

And of Tom English’s hand in this, James was absolutely brutal following English’s tweet regarding the Celtic gaffers posts conference:

Forrest put,  “English is being English; he long since ceased to be a serious person and has tried to reinvent himself as some kind of Shock Jock, but he’s too stupid to pull that off except at the level of his hero Kris Boyd. His effort tonight is absolutely pathetic.

Niall at The Celtic Star, had a different stance on the whole situation. It was the editor of The Celtic Star that made that now infamous “These people are not your friends” at the first fan media conference, and I will be honest, I cringed at that comment.

But since looking, and I mean REALLY looking at the media narrative on how they are twisting Ange’s words, and since taking up a job reporting on Celtic from a fans point of view, I am happy to eat humble pie and admit now with the benefit of hindsight, he was absolutely bang on.

What is also interesting is that Niall says he wasn’t even sure if English even attended the presser which means one of two things. He is shit stirring for the sake of a few clicks, or he has just completely embarrassed himself by not completing the most basic of fact checks.

However, both pieces are bang on the money and I will leave you with Niall’s parting comment at the conclusion of his piece, “In the meantime, if anyone should be concerned about their mobile ringing and a warning shot delivered by Dermot Desmond, I can think of a couple who our main shareholder may prioritise over Celtic’s new boss or indeed anyone in the Celtic Fan Media.”
