After a quiet start, Neil Lennon really is splashing the cash if reports coming out of Turkey today are to be believed.

Caleb Ekuban, the Trabzonspor striker, is apparently being lined up by the Celtic gaffer and a fee of £7.2million is said to have been agreed to secure his services, The Sun has picked up a story by Haber in which it claims that even personal terms have been completed and that the player is expected any day for his medical.

Normally, we would be excited about the arrival of yet another international forward with continental experience, however, there comes a point where we start to worry about the future of Odsonne Edouard.

It would be out of character if the board sanctioned spending as much money when the weekend victory over Dundee United had over £8m worth of goal scorers on the bench and Leigh Griffiths still kicking his heels in the stands.

If the transfer does come off it would certainly ease the burden off Edouard because there is no way either Albian Ajeti or Ekuban would accept sitting on the bench every week and getting the odd 15 minutes after the game has been won.

It also raises questions about the future of Patryk Klimala, who has barely featured in a green and white hooped shirt after his £3.5m signing in January, playing time would be even more limited if he had three players of the calibre of Edouard, Ajeti and Ekuban ahead of him in the queue – and as for Griffiths, his time at Parkhead could well be over altogether, given how far out of the picture he is.

Goals weren’t a problem last season and yet Celtic are intent, it would seem, on adding even more firepower, however, a couple of centre-halves and a left-back wouldn’t go a miss whilst the chequebook is out.
