Premier League champions Liverpool are said to be the latest club to have joined the queue for the services of Kristoffer Ajer, however, before you start to panic, the link and source of the speculation is far from reliable.

The Liverpool Echo has picked up on the Celtic Underground Twitter feed that simply claims that “Liverpool looking at Ajer”, no source, no corroborating evidence.

The club has already rubbished claims earlier in the summer that a bid from AC Milan was rejected and in “normal” circumstances – with two years left on his contract – now would be the right time to sell the centre-half, if of course he wants to leave.

Ajer is an attractive proposition for most elite level clubs, his pace and ability on the ball will always catch the eye, added to his internaitonal experience and the sheer volume of games he has played for such a young player in his position.

Would Liverpool be a good fit for Ajer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

There is also his transfer fee, when you consider that the likes of Ben White and Ben Chilwell are being touted at over £50million, it is easy to see why any English club might look to Celtic once again given the success of the likes of Virgil van Dijk and Kieran Tierney.

Ajer has been the subject of transfer rumours since last year and as the months tick down on his contract, this is only going to intensify, especially if the gaffer is able to get Shane Duffy over the line in the coming days however, until the club confirms any interest, it can be written off immediately for what it is – speculation aimed at grabbing attention, nothing more.
