Former Celtic winger Derk Boerrigter has slammed the club for ruining his career, claiming that he was forced to play through injury during his time in Glasgow.

In an astonishing media rant that will further alienate Celtic supporters, the Dutchman has left no-one in any doubt about his feelings for the club.

As quoted by The Daily Record, the retired 32-year-old said:

Celtic destroyed my career by making me play even though I was injured. That was despite me repeatedly telling them it was not a good idea.

Celtic’s medical staff at that time were too poor for words. When I said that I was in pain they told me to go on my exercise bike at home. What sort of treatment do you call that?

I told Celtic that I wanted to leave, but said I wanted to get some money as well. They refused to pay it.

So I told them, ‘OK, I’ll stay put and you can pay me an entire year’s salary.’

That is what they did, but they gave me a lot of hassle about it.

There is obviously no way of confirming Boerrigter’s claims or not, but the accusation we made him play through injury is a bit far-fetched considering he barely played during his three years at the club.

When he did take to the pitch he hardly impressed either and has famously gone down as one of the worst signings in the club’s history.

He clearly feels as bitter about the whole thing as we do. I don’t think he’ll be returning to do the Paradise Windfall draw any time soon.
