Brendan Rodgers has given an update on the fitness of Kieran Tierney after the fan favourite missed out on today’s trip to face Hibernian at Easter Road.

Emilio Izaguirre was brought into the starting eleven to replace the 21-year-old at left wing-back, with Rodgers opting to go for a defensive back three in the absence of Tierney and Mikael Lustig.

Prior to kick-off, Rodgers explained to media what Tierney’s issue was, telling The Daily Record: “Kieran’s had an ongoing hip issue that was really sore after the other night. When the gap isn’t so big between the games then he would’ve struggled today.”

The problem dogging Tierney is particularly unfortunate right now given Celtic’s heavy schedule, with the club playing a match mid-week to weekend throughout December.

Clearly no risks are being taken with regards to the homegrown talent’s fitness, with Rodgers preferring to keep him fresh for the toughest matches on the calendar.

The biggest of those is undoubtedly the end of the year derby at Ibrox.

Whether Tierney returns for the visit of Motherwell mid-week remains to be seen, although that would be seen as a harder fixture than Dundee at home just a few days later and it seems likely he will feature, with today’s formation not working out well at all.
