“Celtic fans shouldn’t be concerned” – Journalist on player move

Since Jeremie Frimpong sealed his move to the Bundesliga, Celtic fans have questioned the timing of the move on social media.  Many Celtic fans are worried that the apparent willingness of Frimpong wanting to leave the club after just over 18 months, could be alarm bells at possible happenings behind the scenes at Celtic Park.

On the Record Celtic Podcast, Craig Swan, a sports writer at the Daily Record, says he doesn’t think the Celtic fans have anything to worry about as the deal simply represents a great deal for the club, “First and foremost, the main aspect of the entire deal is that comes across this fantastic business for Celtic when you consider what they paid for them, just the small development fee. And what they’ve been able to make from him from Bayer Leverkusen.

“Concern? I’m not sure, and I think everybody who follows Celtic thinks Celtic is the be all and end all and that’s understandably so. But for a player of Jeremy Frimpong’s age to get the opportunity to go and play in the German Bundesliga, and it’s clearly a cut above the Scottish Premier League.

“Bayer Leverkusen won’t be as big a club as Celtic, but the league and the challenge he might see at that age is something that he fancied doing. So I guess for everyone, for the player that’s something he’s obviously wanted.

“It’s a good deal for the club and Neil was obviously disappointed to lose him, but I’m sure in the cold light of day, Neil Lennon, as he has subsequently said,  it’s been good business for the club, and really, no one loses.

“Obviously Celtic would have preferred to keep him, playing wise, but you just can’t turndown that kind of money and and in fairness,  it’s a deal that works for everybody.”
