Kris Commons struck two more goals as Celtic moved fifteen points clear at the top of the table with a 4-0 victory at Hibernian.

Commons opened the scoring following a defensive slip on nine minutes but the visitors were certainly grateful to goalkeeper Fraser Forster as Hibs pressed for an equaliser.

However, the league leaders netted three times during the final thirteen minutes with Virgil van Dijk and substitute Teemu Pukki both on the mark before Commons added a last-minute penalty.

Hibs had actually seen the first opportunity with Sam Stanton missing the near post inside two minutes before a defensive mix-up allowed the in-form Commons to calmly finish into the far corner.

Michael Nelson headed straight at Forster in reply from Alex Harris’ cross while Commons and the recalled Nir Biton each tried from distance.

Forster was next called upon to keep out a fierce shot from Stanton before Nelson blocked from Joe Ledley at the other end. Manager Neil Lennon introduced Pukki for the start of the second-half.

However, Hibs came out fighting and Forster was required to deny Abdellah Zoubir twice in rapid succession while Scott Brown was wide with a volley. Forster then came to the rescue again with an extended stop from the lively Stanton.

Celtic countered through both ex-Hibs midfielder Brown and Pukki before the latter was fouled and van Dijk expertly curled a 25-yard free-kick beyond Ben Williams.

Six minutes later Pukki added a third courtesy of a firm drive before Commons grabbed his twentieth goal of the campaign from the spot after the Finnish striker was bundled over by Alan Maybury.

One Reply to “Celtic finish strongly”

  • While we seem to be scoring a few goals, there is still a drastic requirement for a good solid striker. The smoke and mirrors effect with our midfielders and defenders scoring goals for us is likely to have the biard thing we don’t need a striker and that would be a disastrous decision regarding the Champions League.
