Former Celtic man Charly Musonda has been warned his promising career hangs in the balance after Belgian U21s Johan Walem revealed the extent of his unprofessionalism this week.

Musonda was a much-hyped loan signing in January but failed to do much in the Hoops apart from a glorious assist at home to FC Zenit in the UEFA Europa League.

He made just eight appearances before his 18-month loan deal was cut short and he returned to Chelsea.

Celtic and Brendan Rodgers received criticism from some quarters for their handling of the situation, but it’s become clear since that Musonda has a bit of an attitude problem.

He’s now on loan at Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem but has yet to make an appearance due to injury.

Walem has spoken about his career and has revealed he failed to show up for international action last year because he thought he was too good for the underage Belgian side.

As quoted by The Daily Record, he said:

Charly did not show up for the qualifying match against Turkey at the end of August last year, so I went to see him at Chelsea, the problem is that Charly has so much ambition. He wants to be the biggest, the prettiest, the best.

Charly would have thought he would be called for the A-team, so I did not succeed… I told him: “You can be a key player with us, you can experience an European Championship.”

He has other choices I did not want to push Charly after that – I could not do that to the group.

He may he excellent skills but he’ll never make it at the elite level if he doesn’t concede something to his managers and coaches, all of whom would likely love to see him reach his potential.

What kind of guidance he is getting appears suspect and at this point, it looks unlikely he’ll achieve much in the professional game.

Celtic are better off without him.
