While Celtic won the Scottish Premiership with ease last season, they were outscored by their fierce rivals, Rangers in the division. Accordingly, it seems that Celtic – despite the permanent signing of Edouard – are keen to reinforce their attacking options, and Manchester City’s Thierry Ambrose has been identified as a potential target.

They do say that the best form of defence is attack, and Celtic have been linked with a move for another attacking player. According to the Scotsman, the Scottish champions are interested in signing Manchester City’s highly-rated forward, Thierry Ambrose. The Frenchman spent the previous season on loan in the Netherlands, with the Eredivisie outfit, NAC Breda, where he impressed with several promising performances.

In fact, over the course of 32 games for the Dutch side, Ambrose had contributed to a respectable total of 15 goals (almost one every two games) having scored ten goals and registered five assists. This was mightily impressive considering it was his first full season of senior football, a campaign in which he succeeded to demonstrate his attacking qualities.

At the age of 21, his potential is vast, and one can easily envisage the striker flourishing under the guidance of Brendan Rodgers – a manager who has an impressive record of developing young talent.

One of Ambrose’s most notable qualities is his versatility; he can virtually operate anywhere along the attacking line, or slightly deeper as an attacking midfielder. Furthermore, he is a very skilful and technical player, who enjoys dribbling and attempting flick-ons.

Naturally, given Ambrose’s age and relative inexperience, he does need to pay more significant attention to strengthen his skillset, such as increasing his defensive contribution and improving his passing ability.

While Celtic may not necessarily need another striker, the opportunity to sign a player of Ambrose’ quality and promise maybe too good to resist.
