Of all the things I have read about Giorgos Giakoumakis’s move this one has to be the worst take.

And the Daily Record has form for this kind of thing.

About two weeks ago, the Record claimed that Atlanta United’s CEO Garth Lagerwe had a veiled dig at Celtic over the transfer of Giorgos Giakoumakis.

The headline read, “Celtic dealt veiled Giorgios Giakoumakis dig as Atlanta United chief vents on visa woes after transfer delay”.

It was, of course, absolute nonsense as the CEO actually said that the reason for the delay was getting players out before they could get players in but don’t let facts get in the way of a good headline.

And here they are, at it again with another anti-Celtic headline, “Giorgos Giakoumakis blames Celtic transfer exit delay for ‘frustrating’ Atlanta United debut”

A headline designed to make it look like the Greek striker blamed the Glasgow club for the length of time the transfer took. Let’s take a look at what he actually said.

As reported by the Daily Record, Giakoumakis said of his move,  “I was frustrated with the length of time it took to go through the visa process.

“The travel and the visa issues tired me out. I felt tired although it wasn’t a fitness thing.

“I demand a lot of myself. Even if I score a hat trick sometimes I will not be happy.

“Sometimes I’m too egoist. I know it’s not good, but this is me.

“Hopefully, I will hit top form in a couple of weeks or so. I wanted to thank the fans for the welcome they gave me.”

Again, it was the visa delay that Giakoumakis was frustrated with and NOT the length of time the deal took to get done.

As I said before, even if it was the length of time it took to get the deal over the line, that was not Celtic’s fault. It was Atlanta United’s.

They made an offer, Celtic said no.

They upped their offer to what Celtic thought was acceptable and a deal was done.

It’s just more anti-Celtic rhetoric from a national news outlet that seems to get away with misleading headlines without impunity.

If you are a Celtic fan and buy that record rag you will get what you bought, an anti Celtic, pro watp klub comic. Don’t moan about it, save money and bring this rag to its knees and put it out of circulation.
