We all know how good James Forrest is, but it appears as though everyone else is only just realising. Despite the fact that he’s been tearing it up for Celtic this season and in the years prior, it’s a display for his country that has got the attention of reporters and fans alike.
He picked up a hattrick for Scotland against Israel on Tuesday night, sealing a 3-2 win for his country in the process. It was a truly formidable display from the forward, but it was one that we’ve come to expect from a player that is undoubtedly one of our best.
A recent comment on Forrest from TalkSport reporter Ian Abrahams, though, has livened up a bit of debate about him online. Taking to Twitter, Abrahams suggested that some lower-level clubs in the Premier League could ‘take a punt’ on the deadly attacker.
He may be 27 but I wonder if some teams in the Premier League, especially below half way, might take a punt on Forrest or try to in January, Scotland’s best player by a mile tonight pic.twitter.com/VX74HuLWhl

Naturally, the suggestion here is that Celtic, and Forrest, are only on a par with the lower-level clubs in the Premier League. Obviously, lots of Hoops fans have been quick to jump to the defence of their man, and it’s fair to say that the claim from Abrahams – which is questionable at best – has not gone down well.
Take a look at what fans have had to say below…
£100million plus add ons

Take a punt on a player wth years of European experience, who scores goals in massive games, has a trophy cabinet bursting at the seams….but aye, take a ‘punt’

Watch his performance against Bayern Munich last year and think again. He’s not leaving for a bottom half team in any league

Ripped Liepzig apart as well. He’s a champions league level player, not Cardiff

Arrogance of the English strike again , I remember when you all said Henrik Larson wouldn’t cut it in the EPL , remind us what he achieved after Celtic ???

Luckily Forrest is more ambitious than bottom half Prem club…Guys with Celtic in their blood are not content with the annual “I play in England award”..and would prefer to play for a massive club infront of 60k winning trophies and being remembered six months after they retire

How condescending can one small tweet be, A punt? Guy has been doing it at the top level for Celtic. Not to mention bar about 5 teams the premier league is a joke. Burnley, Bournemouth, Fulham, Palace, Watford, Brighton, Cardiff? Nothing clubs who are nothing without TV money.
