With the media looking to seemingly stir the pot on Sunday with the Tom Rogic contract question, the Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou quickly shut any of that talk down.

Speaking to the Sky Sports journalist post match when asked if he had thought about renewing Rogic’s contract, Postecoglou said, “No, it’s the last thing on my mind, mate.

“We want people here who are happy to be here and want to be a part of it.

“Unless someone knocks on my door and says they want to go I’ll just let it roll.”

But clearly the reporter was fishing for a headline and although he didn’t get one, he certainly got a story.

The furore amongst the Celtic blogging community about the question was predictable. With 18 months left, there was no need to talk about a new contract when the team had just gone four points clear at the top of the league.

But many have their say and journalist, Keith Jackson, put in his two bobs worth in The Daily Record.

The journalist said, “There’s no need to panic. Rogic looks settled and happy playing under his fellow Aussie.

“And Celtic did fine without him last Wednesday night.

“But Rogic is a special option which Ange Postecoglou will be confident of keeping in his group.”

Fellow journalist Andy Newport said the deal should be offered as a matter of priority, “There were plenty ready to write Rogic off last season but he’s always been one of the most gifted players in Scotland and Postecoglou’s arrival has brought him back to his best.

“At 29, he’s still got a few more years at the top left in him so a new deal should be a priority.”

Personally, I don’t think that this is an issue. Looking at how Ange does his business, it wouldn’t surprise me if those contract talks have already begun because as he has already shown, the Aussie gaffer is a shrewd operator when it comes to recruitment and retention.
