It was the system that captivated us wasn’t it?
When Ange Postecoglou took over at Celtic and we saw the inverted full back role and what it brought to the team and got instantly excited by it.
Fast, free flowing football is what we have become accustomed to now at Celtic but in those early days, we also saw the team being exposed, especially in Europe.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Mark Wilson revealed the reason behind the early season form of the team and a conversation he had with Celtic defender Anthony Ralston, “I mean, you can clearly see the difference on those two.
“Taylor and Ralston, two key positions as well that Postecoglou came with this idea of inverted full backs that we all looked at and thought, ‘What is this?’.
“I remember going to see it in person live early in the season and thinking this is interesting.
“But this takes a lot of work to get this to work. And they must work tirelessly on the training pitch for it.
“I was lucky enough to speak to Anthony Ralston who told me a bit about it and he says it was difficult to wrap their heads around it.
“And it’s made him a better player and made him believe in himself.
“Remember Ralston wasn’t involved last year.
“Hardly kicked a ball for Celtic.”
I could just imagine being on the training field and trying to understand this new system.
It’s something we’ve never seen in Scotland before but by God, hasn’t it just paid off.
