Ex Celt Lennon tipped for sensational return to Scottish football

|

No less than three weeks after resigning from Celtic, Neil Lennon is being tipped for a sensational return to Scottish football. Lennon suffered a season of turmoil at Celtic Park where the burden of taking the Hoops to their tenth title in a row seemed to weight heavy on the Northern Irishman.

As results not only in the domestic competition waned, Lennon’s European record this year was a disaster in the eyes of the Celtic fans and early elimination from the Champions League set the tone for the remainder of the season.

Despite all that, Lennon has emerged as a serious front runner for the Aberdeen vacancy since the Dons parted company with their long serving manager, Derek McInnes. McInnes was the Scottish Premiership’s longest serving manager after spending eight seasons at Pittodrie but his return in silverware was always a bone of contention for the Aberdeen fans.

Would you have John Kennedy as next Celtic manager?

YES

NO

According to The Belfast Telegraph Lennon is one of the bookies leading front runners to take over the Dons hot seat at 8/1 just behind another ex Celtic manager Gordon Strachan and the favourite for the Hoops job, Enzo Maresca.

It is not known whether an official approach has been made for Lennon but what a coup it would be for the Aberdeen board if they captured his signature. It would also set up a very interesting season if Lennon had to line up a side against his old club.

If Lennon got the job, would he make a success if allowed his own backroom team like he had during his first stint as Celtic manager and could he bring further silverware to an otherwise bare Pittodrie trophy cabinet?
