Former Celt in ludicrous Glasgow Derby suggestion

Former Celtic defender, John Hughes, has weighed into the guard of honour debate and claimed Celtic should grant their Glasgow rivals one before the Glasgow Derby kicks off next Sunday.  The Hoops are due to play Rangers at Celtic Park on the 21st March in what will be the first game after losing the league crown to their opponents.

Hughes, also formerly of Falkirk, Hibs and Livingston, and is now managing Ross County in the Scottish Premiership, insists that the Celtic team must pay homage to the “unwritten rule” and applaud the new Scottish champions onto the pitch. Speaking in The Daily Record, “Rangers have been outstanding and there should be a guard of honour, it’s an unwritten rule.  The next team has to take their medicine, take it on the chin.

Would you have John Kennedy as next Celtic manager?

YES

NO

“Rangers have been outstanding, there has been no noise coming out of there and too much coming out of Celtic.  Not signing a goalkeeper, Leigh Griffiths and all that – too much noise.

“Now the challenge for them is to get it back. But sometimes in sport you have to just tip your hat, say they have raised the bar and focus on going out to beat them.”

This “Guard of Honour” debate is an absolute nonsense and at a time where tensions are already high in Glasgow, Hughes should know better than to back an action that could potentially cause more problems than it solves. It seems this incessant contention is only being spoke about to placate a certain half of Glasgow and this should be left well alone, especially in the midst of one the most heated derbies in world football.
