Former Celtic hero Patrick Roberts has left the door open on a return to Celtic, with his future still not clear at Manchester City or elsewhere ahead of the new season.

Spending two-and-a-half seasons on loan at Celtic part from the Manchester side, he made himself a cult hero with supporters and proved to be a lethal attacking weapon, dazzling fans with some excellent goals and creative skills.

Many would likely love to see him make a return to Glasgow, especially on a permanent basis, and it’s something the player has refused to rule out this week.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun, Roberts said:

Obviously I said at the end of the season that I spent a good two and a half years there and my time was brilliant.

You never know in football.

I’ve said before that I could end up back there at some point but right now I’m just looking at what’s best for me and best for my future.

The winger has less than 12 months on his current deal at the Etihad Stadium, according to The Scottish Sun, and there’s little chance of him making a breakthrough into Pep Guardiola’s first-team, making an exit very likely in August.

With the English Premier League transfer window closing on 9th August this year, it puts a date on the immediate horizon that will make things much clearer for Roberts and Celtic.

If he hasn’t found a club in the English top-flight by next week, the chances of a return to the Hoops would then greatly improve.

Can the club finally bring him to Celtic Park on a permanent contract?
