Former Celtic attacking midfielder Kris Commons has done some simple maths and he believes he knows the January transfer window war chest that will be available to manager Brendan Rodgers as we look towards further Europa League progression as well as the Scottish Premiership title.

Rodgers himself has already spoken of his desire to add at least two strikers when the New Year window opens as he knows we are very light up top with Odsonne Edouard his only option following the sale last summer of Moussa Dembele, and Leigh Griffiths extended break from the game as he deals with some private matters.

Having joined Celtic from Derby County back in January 2011, the now 35-year-old went on to make over 200 appearances for us prior to his departure and he contributed numerous goals and assists. It’s probably down to the individual fan to decide whether his guesswork here is on the money or not but writing in a column for the Daily Mail he speculated Rodgers could have £27million to play with next month.

“Their yearly financial figures, released back in September, showed a record revenue of £101.6m, along with a pre-tax profit of £17.3m. More tellingly, though, was the net cash figure of £27m. That’s the infamous pot of gold the club have stashed away for a rainy day. Well, that time has now come. When the January window opens, Celtic have to be ruthless and flex their financial muscle. They have to go and strengthen up front with some reinforcements. Edouard is a young lad who needs help because the lone striker role is so difficult.”

That would definitely get Rodgers his two strikers and with change.
