In yet another twist in the Fraser Forster saga, details of his current Saints deal have been revealed in which the huge task facing Celtic in persuading him to sign permanently is laid bare.

Football Insider claims that the England international’s annual salary is in the region of £5million per year, or nearly £100,000 a week in old money and with two years left to run on this deal, he would have to be incredibly committed to the cause to sacrifice almost three-quarters of his salary to join the likes of Scott Brown and Callum McGregor as the Hoops top earners.

There have been numerous conflicting reports in the last week alone with deals ranging from a partial swap deal involving Olivier Ntcham, a permanent deal and a loan deal all being mooted  – showing that, in reality, nobody has a clue what is going on behind closed doors, or on Zoom calls as the case may be.

With Craig Gordon now departed, there is a more urgent need to get the goalkeeper situation sorted and it certainly appears to be the biggest cause for concern with pre-season training well and truly under way for the August re-start.

With the confusion surrounding the Forster deal and the uncertainty involved in getting it over the line, the much simpler option of persuading Joe Hart to sign for Celtic seems to be increasingly more attractive by the day, the former England number one is built for being the man under the spotlight in one of the most anticipated seasons in Scottish football history.
