Former Scotland gaffer, Alex McLeish, has warned Celtic that must deal in current striker Leigh Griffiths or they could lose him in a Celtic summer clear out.

The exasperating striker made an appearance off the bench on Wednesday night to rescue a point for the Hoops in the last minute in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen up at Pittodrie.

Speaking to the Football Insider, McLeish has said Celtic must activate Griffith’s one year extension as his experience could be vital when it comes to the rebuild next season under a new manager“I would say they have to. At the moment, there’s nobody who has come in. Nobody has come in and said: ‘New broom, sweep it clean. We’re going to get rid of five or six,’ and the new man brings in his own men.

“Then perhaps Leigh could be a victim there. But I would have thought he would have been extremely handy to keep around. I think there’s a good example of an experienced striker doing well when you look at Kilmarnock in recent weeks, Kyle Lafferty. He’s been banging them in.

Should Leigh Griffiths get another year at Celtic?

YES

NO

NO

“When I saw him at Rangers, I thought the big man’s getting towards the end of his career, his legs are not what they were. He’s so sharp at the moment. That is incredible.

“It’s just a good striker with the knowledge and he knows what he’s doing. A good intelligent footballer and a guy who knows his position extremely well.”

Vital Celtic has been running a poll since the 11th April and the majority of participants believe the hitman should be offered a new contract in time for next season.

With all his troubles this year seemingly behind him, is Griffiths REALLY that important to the team next season or should Celtic let the 30 year old move on?
