It was a story that broke yesterday and to some degree, I am surprised it took so long. Jose Mourinho to Celtic was a rumour that was always on the cards as soon as the “Special One” was sacked (again) from his latest club.

Tottenham Hotspur are the latest club to dispense with Mourinho’s services and with the Portuguese in high demand, the talk will always be ‘Where will he end up next?’.  After the astounding news broke yesterday that the very first club to approach Jose was Celtic, reporter Mark Guidi, gave his opinion on whether the enigmatic manager would take up the Parkhead hotseat.

Speaking on The Go Radio Football show, Guidi said, “I would say absolutely next to no chance. He normally wouldn’t get out of his bed for less than 8 million quid the he demands.  Unless he’s willing to take a serious pay cut.  But with the greatest of respect to Celtic it’s a non starter.

Would you take Mourinho as new Celtic boss?

YES

NO

“By the way, Celtic, would they really want him? Genuinely?   Would they really want him?”

You bet Celtic would want him. The fans? Not so sure. But with news also that Spurs would have to take up the shortfall in his salary should Mourinho land another job within the fiurst year of his dismissal, Celtic could potentially pull a rabbit out the hat and take a chance on him for a minimum of one season.

The publicity alone would cover his salary and the calibre of player he could attract would excite the fans.  Would Mourinho fancy a trip to Dingwall on a wet, February Tuesday night? Alas, I think not. But can the Celtic supporters dare to dream?
