See, these kind of lazy assumptions annoy the hell out of me.

And it’s usually the same player that is the target of them.

Take Carl Starfelt for example.

He had a rough start to his Celtic career with an own goal against Hearts in the first game of the season, but ever since then, he has kicked on and has been crucial in the heart of defence alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers.

And yes, I know he isn’t the most comfortable with the ball at his feet but overall, over the last few months he has been solid for us.

But yet, here I am again, having to defend him against another pundit’s lazy analysis of the Swede.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, former Scotland keeper Alan Rough said this of Starfelt, “I thought some of the Celtic players struggled a wee bit [in the Glasgow Derby].

“That centre half  boy [Starfelt] gives me palpitations.

“Every time he gets drawn out of that centre half that position he just gets done every time.

“I think Celtic will strengthen again next year and it looks like he could be one that could suffer.”

So hold on. The defender that has been part of the best defence in the league will now be moved on because he got pulled out of position a couple of times?

Is that where we are now?

The media narrative, some would call it a campaign, against Starfelt has been nothing short of shameful and Celtic should speak out about it.
