Young Dylan Reid has went from a relatively unknown quantity in Scottish football to an overnight household name after being linked and spoken about by Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

Celtic have reportedly had a bid in the region of £125,000 accepted by St Mirren for their youngster and it did seem that the transfer may go through relatively simply.

Not so, says journalist Roger Hannah.

And not only that, Hannah has sent a warning to Celtic that could hamper their chances of capturing the Scottish u17 international.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Hannah said, “The difference with Dylan Reid is he’s actually had a bit of first team football at St Mirren.

“It sounds to me as if the fee won’t be the problem.

“Maybe Dylan and his advisors and his family are just hanging off. He has been linked with the likes of Benfica.

“There has been interest from south of the border and now teams know what the level of fee is.

“I think maybe there’s going to be a little period of obeyance while a sea of other teams come in and match it or maybe even go higher and then we’ll see where his future lies.”

If Benfica do come calling that would be a move too good to turn down, as would a move to Celtic.

The only thing Reid needs to ask himself is where does he see himself developing better?

I suppose we will get the answer to that question soon enough.
