Many Celtic fans are expecting more signings to join the club this summer, the distinction between what the expectation is to what is actually going on at the club is stark.
Since the end of the season, there has been many outgoings with loan players like Diego Laxalt, Jonjoe Kenny and Shane Duffy all leaving the club and the with the expected departures of Odsonne Edouard, Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie, the immediate future of the Celtic first team looks bleak.
Only one player has come in this window and it doesn’t seem like there will be any huge names coming to Paradise any time soon.
Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, journalist Hugh Keevins, took an amazing swipe at Ange Postecoglou when he had his rant at the state of affairs at Celtic, “Nicky Hammond left in mid March, and it’s now mid July. Do they want a Head of Recruitment? Who’s in charge of this process of bringing players in?
“Ange Postecoglou, who’s got a lot on his plate to coach the players. He’s got to get them used to his way of working. He needs to plan ahead for Midtjylland and take it stage by stage.
“But he has no knowledge of players in Europe because he’s Austronesian. So, who’s in charge of this process? Nicky Hammond left mid March mid July and there’s still a vacancy.”
A very strange and misinformed comment indeed. Since Postecoglou took the job it has been well documented that the big Aussie had extremely good knowledge of European football down to two key factors.
He was the national team boss of Australia and that meant his job took him on scouting missions to various countries in Europe to look at players like Tom Rogic and Harry Kewell to name just a couple.
But one fundamental fact that makes Keevins statement factually incorrect is this. Ange has been a coach for over 25 years. To suggest that he has no knowledge of European football because he hasn’t worked in the continent is not only lazy, but ignorant.
But that just doesn’t fit in with the narrative of Celtic bashing though does it?
