As the transfer circus begins now that Celtic have finally appointed a manager, Ange Postecoglou is rumoured to be in the market to sign experienced Australian goalkeeper Matt Ryan. Ryan has been capped sixty times for his country since he took over from the legendary Mark Schwarzer.

Ryan has represented his country under Postecoglou in the 2014 World Cup where he played in the Socceroo’s three group matches in losses to Spain, Chile and Holland.

The following year, however, he helped the Aussie’s to their first AFC Asian Cup after defeating South Korea 2-1 where he only conceded two goals in the whole tournament.

Former Australian and Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has given his seal of approval to the move and said that Ryan would fit in well with Postecoglou’s swashbuckling style of play, “Ange likes his goalkeepers to be sweeper keepers with the way he plays and that’s what Matty Ryan is. He knows him very well.

Is Ange Postecoglou the man for the Celtic job?

“He likes his centre backs to be able to bring the ball out and take risks. His possession game is intense based and needs players in key positions who can take those risks regardless of pressure.

“I’m sure the club will have targets but the more players you bring I the more time it takes to bed everyone down and he won’t have the time he’s had in the past.”

With the Hoops having their goalkeeping woes last season, it seems Postecoglou has identified his man to take over between the sticks as he looks to build for his assault on the Scottish Premier League.
